Publicity for e-petition please

Surely it is engineers who are responsible for modern technology in the first place

It is very good indeed to see the e-petition 6271 to make “Engineer” a protected title is underway. I hope that the requisite number of signatories are obtained before the petition closes on 12/09/2012.

However, in connection with the publicity for this petition, 'Engineering eye' (January PE) seems to me to express a strange view in the statement “Sometimes the lack of conversance with modern technology on the part of engineers is astonishing.”

Really? Where is the evidence for this broad statement. Surely it is engineers, whether professional engineers or not, who are responsible for modern technology in the first place.

What astonishes me is that the magazine of the Institution, or at least 'Engineering eye', whoever that actually is, doesn't understand that professional engineers would probably appreciate that providing proper publicity for said e-petition might just be the right thing to do.
