It's nice to know there is now at least one engineering company which does not restrict its recruitment to people who have done EXACTLY the same job before (ABB, according to your December issue).
Perhaps we should consider some of the engineers who are currently underused or cast aside before we cast our net wider?
I have worked in patents for 15 of the last 19 years, so most engineering companies would file my CV in the bin if the vacancy they were trying to fill was not solely concerned with patents.
However, to quote my previous managing director - a man not given to casual compliments - "Ken understands our vehicle better than any of our other engineers, because he has to understand every vehicle system in order to check the validity of our patents".
